Haysi Transfers Are Not Releases

Haysi belongs to the same regional authority as Duffield, Abingdon, and Tazewell. SWVRJA uses one current locator across that system. A Lee County case can be moved to Haysi without changing the prosecuting court and can later move again without leaving custody. The facility’s location in Haysi does not turn the case into a Dickenson County case, just as a Lee County arrest does not prove the person remains near Lee County.

An affirmative disposition is needed before describing community release. Bond, a court order, time served, or sentence expiration may end the jail episode and return the person to the community. An internal move, VADOC delivery, another-jurisdiction transfer, federal pickup, or hospital movement has a different meaning. Ask which agency held the person after Haysi and whether SWVRJA recorded a destination. That question prevents a routine change in facility assignment from becoming a false release claim.

Locate a Haysi Booking First

The SWVRJA portal is designed for current inmates. Search the authority as a whole, not just Haysi. If the person appears at another authority facility, that result resolves the basic question: the regional custody episode is still open. If the person appears nowhere, continue through VINE, the relevant court, VADOC, and a direct record request. The authority publishes no fixed post-release visibility window and no update schedule that supports a time-based inference.

1. Search the exact name in the official authority-wide current locator.
2. Check the listed facility rather than assuming the person remained at Haysi.
3. If no current result appears, search Virginia VINE for the person and SWVRJA agency record.
4. Review the Lee court case for bond, disposition, sentence, or transfer information.
5. Use VADOC when a state transfer is possible, then request the SWVRJA event if the destination remains unclear.

The SWVRJA current-inmate access page does not advertise an archive or recent-release feed. A missing name can reflect release, a misspelling, processing delay, court transport, another custodian, or system lag. The search must produce a positive event before the outcome is labeled.

Haysi Facility Contact and Hours

Use the Haysi line to confirm the facility contact route and ask practical questions the office can answer. Public hours were not stated in the authority directory. Call before an in-person visit. A caller should not assume staff can provide a future release time or disclose protected details. The most useful question is whether Haysi is the correct current facility and which records channel holds the booking event.

Read a Haysi Release Outcome

The same date can describe different custody outcomes. A bond release ends pretrial confinement under a court or magistrate arrangement, but the charge remains pending unless the court says otherwise. Time served means the active jail term was credited as complete; suspended time or probation may remain. A transfer closes Haysi’s role without ending confinement. A detainer pickup means another agency assumed custody under a hold. Dismissal or acquittal explains a case result but does not rule out another charge or hold.

Use “actual release date and time” only for a completed custodian event. A court order time and a later SWVRJA release time can both be accurate. Ask for the cumulative booking and release entry, releasable booking sheet, actual date and time, disposition, and destination or receiving agency. A narrow request can also seek a relevant bond or court-release paper and booking photograph.

Ask for electronic copies and a cost estimate before actual charges exceed a chosen cap. No flat Haysi release-record or photograph fee is listed. Virginia FOIA concerns existing records, so frame the request around documents and fields rather than open-ended questions. Exclude medical, juvenile, victim, classification, and security details. If SWVRJA withholds part, ask it to release segregable public portions and identify the statutory basis.

If the preliminary file says certified or transferred, search the later circuit file rather than treating that procedural move as the end. Bond, disposition, jail time, suspended time, probation, and appeal fields can explain the legal basis, while the Haysi release entry supplies the physical time.

Haysi Release Files Over Time

The cumulative booking and release record has a 20-year retention period after separation under Library of Virginia GS-08. The fuller incarceration series has a three-year period and may contain a booking sheet, property receipts, photographs, confinement history, and release documents. This difference explains why SWVRJA may still hold a summary event after a photo or full jacket is no longer available.

Retention and access are separate. The schedule does not require public web posting or make every field open. Virginia law can protect juveniles, victims, medical content, security information, personal identifiers, and sealed or expunged matters. Requesting the exact Haysi episode promptly is more effective than asking the authority to compile a broad history. If a lawful seal changes visibility, do not try to rebuild the record from stale secondary material.

Haysi and Lee Custody Systems

“Lee inmate” can point to three unrelated custodians. A person with a Lee County charge may be housed by SWVRJA at Haysi. A person sentenced to state-responsible confinement may be held in a VADOC prison far from Lee County. A federal prisoner at USP Lee is held by BOP inside Lee County, often for a case from elsewhere. The official locator must match the custodian, not the county name alone.

A VADOC institution result after a Haysi disappearance establishes state transfer. A VADOC probation or parole district can show release from secure custody while legal supervision continues. A BOP result of Released or Not in BOP Custody proves only the end of BOP custody and does not exclude federal supervised release or another system. ICE’s current detainee locator is not a historical release database, and a no-result alone proves nothing about immigration release.

For Haysi, start and end with SWVRJA’s event unless another named custodian took control. The receiving system then supplies the next status. This chain respects the boundary between agencies and avoids describing custody handoff as community release.

Personal Property After Haysi Release

A former SWVRJA inmate has a separate route for personal digital material. The authority says the released person can log into SmartInmate with the inmate number and password to download photos, messages, and postal mail at no cost. That account belongs to the former inmate. It is not a public mugshot archive or an official release record.

Property recovery and release proof should remain separate. The SmartInmate account handles the former inmate’s own stored content. The cumulative record states how the Haysi booking ended. VINE and the court corroborate the event. If account credentials fail, use the authorized platform support route rather than another person’s login details.
