VADOC Release Records Are Statewide
No operating VADOC prison was verified inside Lee County in the official facilities directory. “Virginia Department of Corrections institutions statewide” describes a corrections system, not the name of a local prison. A person sentenced on a Lee County felony can be assigned elsewhere in Virginia. Distance from Lee County does not change which agency controls the state custody record.
A Lee County defendant may first be held by SWVRJA and later enter VADOC. That change is a custody transfer, not release to the community. Record the regional jail episode and the new VADOC institution as separate facts. VADOC Lee County Release Date
The exact public field is Release Date. Preserve that label. When the displayed day is in the future for an incarcerated person, it is VADOC’s currently computed or expected date. It is not proof that the person was actually released, and “projected” should not be substituted as though it were the agency’s field name.
The calculation can change with pre-VADOC jail credit, sentence type, total active time, earning class, disciplinary events, consecutive terms, amended court orders, and other inputs. A detainer can change where someone goes when the sentence ends. It does not always change when the current sentence is satisfied. A parole decision can also affect an eligible case, but the Board action and physical release are separate events.

VADOC Lee County Community Release
A result assigned to a probation or parole district indicates that the person is not assigned to a prison in that result. They remain under VADOC community supervision. The district is an administrative office, not a home address, and the locator does not reveal every condition or the assigned officer’s private routine.
Probation and parole are not synonyms. Probation is imposed by a court and can occur without a prison term or after confinement. Parole is conditional release from an eligible prison sentence after a Virginia Parole Board decision. Virginia ended ordinary discretionary parole for most felony offenses committed on or after January 1, 1995, but older and statutory exception cases remain.
To verify supervision, note the district shown in the locator and use the VADOC facilities and offices directory’s Probation & Parole filter. Check the sentencing or revocation order for probation. Use the Virginia Parole Board’s decision reports when parole is claimed. Do not infer absconder or warrant status from a stale result or missed contact. No current public Lee County Sheriff absconder list was identified.
Full discharge is different. Once both VADOC custody and supervision end, the person may no longer fall within the locator’s stated coverage. A no-result does not prove the historical release date. Use the VADOC release record or letter and the sentencing court record.

When sources disagree, preserve timestamps. A court may amend a sentence before VADOC completes a new calculation. A locator may update after the event. The accurate account can state the order date, the expected date shown at a particular retrieval time, and the later actual release date without treating them as the same event.

VADOC Lee County Release-Day Process
VADOC publishes unusually specific state-prison release logistics. For a discharge or parole release, the agency says release occurs by 11:59 p.m. on the scheduled date, weather permitting. That is a VADOC rule for its facility process. It is not a timetable for SWVRJA Duffield, and it should not be used to promise when a regional jail will finish local release processing.
The state process can include release or supervision documents that the person reviews and signs. Staff return property and provide applicable funds and medicine. These actions help distinguish physical departure from an earlier court or Board decision. A grant, sentence-end date, and gate event can occur at different points.

The captured state source supports the release-document, property, medicine, and timing details while keeping them separate from the regional jail process. Weather, processing, a new court order, or another custody claim can affect what occurs. The actual VADOC release record remains the best source for the completed event. A future locator date or planned release-day instruction does not prove that the person departed as expected.
VADOC Lee County Release Transportation
VADOC says its business office may arrange bus transportation during a facility release. That detail applies to the state institution handling the event. No matching public instruction was found for Duffield concerning a public-transit route, family waiting area, exit gate, or pickup time. Readers should not transfer the VADOC option to SWVRJA.
A person released from a state prison may be far from Lee County because no local VADOC institution was verified. Transportation planning should be confirmed with the releasing institution through an authorized channel. The public facility directory identifies institutions and current contact points, but private details about an individual release may be restricted.
If the release leads to community supervision, the paperwork should identify the reporting requirement. Transportation to the community does not mean supervision ended. If another custodian receives the person, describe the event as a transfer or agency pickup rather than a ride home.

Use “actual release date” only for a completed custodian event. Use “expected release date” for a future value, “transfer” for a move between agencies, and “discharge” when the record says custody or supervision legally ended. Those terms preserve the line between leaving SWVRJA for VADOC, leaving a VADOC institution for a district office, and completing all state supervision.
